When the swells are high, this beach is hard to use.

Roadside parking is limited, and there are always a handful of photographers here, especially at sunset. There’s very little shade, so later sessions can be hot.

It’s within walking distance of a resort and usually busy with beachgoers in the evening.

The lava rock spot is limited, so we recommend the Paradise Package (60 minutes) if you’d like to shoot here.

Beautiful at sunrise or sunset, with a long sandy shore, pines and a few palms for greenery, and a large cliff-like rock outcropping.

This area sits on the tip of West Maui and is usually very windy.

The beach is very popular, so expect a crowd, especially at sunset.

There’s a beautiful view of Molokaʻi, but the rock outcropping keeps the setting sun itself out of the photos.

Kapalua sits on the northwest tip of Maui, so this area tends to be a bit windier around sunset than our South Maui beaches, and the chances of a passing shower are higher here too. Showers in this area often pass quickly, but it helps to come prepared: bring a light layer, plus hair ties or clips (pulled-back hair or an up-do works best on a breezy evening). If you would like calmer conditions, a sunrise session here is usually less windy and more predictable.

We watch the forecast closely before every session. If conditions look like they won’t cooperate, we’ll reach out about meeting at a spot with better weather or moving to the next available time, as explained in our Weather Policy. Wind on its own is a normal part of Maui and isn’t a reason to reschedule.

We photograph here at sunrise only: the setting sun isn’t visible from the cove, and later in the day parking is very limited and the shore fills with restaurant guests waiting for their tables.
