The difference between

a morning & sunset session.

Having your session in the morning will allow the soft light from the rising sun to show the setting’s true colors. Lighting stays relatively even throughout your entire session and morning sun creates amazingly crisp and well lit images perfect for the wall at home!

During this time of the day, we don’t usually have to worry about Maui’s trade winds and ocean will still be calm. Weather is most predictable in the morning here on Maui. As the sun rises and the heat begins creating the convection effects in the atmosphere, the winds pick up and weather becomes more and more unpredictable.

An added bonus to morning sessions is that the beaches & parking areas are MUCH less crowded in the mornings. Sometimes, we even have the whole beach to ourselves!

Having your session during a beautiful Maui sunset will bring out more of the gold and pastel tones from the setting of the sun and volcanic ash (Vog) on the horizon coming from big island. Maui’s winds during this time of the day are a little harder to predict but tend to die off more and more the closer we get to sunset.

The textures & thickness of the clouds and sky changes every day so each sunset is unique and beautiful in it own special way. sunset sessions are a bit more of a gamble weather wise, but are by far the most rewarding times of day when they turn out.

Sunset is a very popular time for everyone at the beach. There will be more pedestrians and other photographers to work around in many occasions. Don’t let it deter you from sunsets though, we all share the beach and with a Pine & Palm professional photographer, crowds are rarely a problem!
